Growing Homes at Kahumana
Growing Homes is our garden, aquaponics and farm program for residents of our transitional housing communities. We are grateful to the Office of Hawaiian Affairs for the generous funding that helped us build aquaponics units for our families. These mini Ahupua'a, growing fish and vegetables, provide an ideal place to get reconnected to the aina - that which gives us life.
It is a wonder to see the transformation of clusters of houses become a thriving, green, farm-based community of families learning how to grow their own food. We engage the keiki living in our transitional housing units on a weekly basis. They have their own garden on our organic farm, in which they learn about the aina and about agriculture through weekly planting, watering, harvesting, and other fun activities.
